We all have things that we can’t live without. Things that we love with a big fluffy heart. Foods, gadgets, tools, clothes, you name it. Today’s post is the first in a “Favorite Things” series. I’m going to share some of the things that I love and use all.the.time. The types of things I’d be lost without. Or at least would be a little less happy without.
There are lots of different fitness bracelets and watches out there. I have the Fitbit Surge, which you may have seen me talk about before.
This thing does pretty much everything. It tells the time (duh), constantly monitors your heart rate, tells you your total steps/miles and stairs climbed for the day, and tracks the number of calories you’ve burned for the day. Not only that, but it has settings to track your workouts, and you can specify what type of workout you’re doing to that it tracks you better. For example, if you’re going to a run outdoors, it will use GPS to tell you your total time and distance. If you’re running on the treadmill, it will STILL tell you your time and distance. This is one of my favorite functions, and something that my old GPS watch couldn’t do. It also has settings to track hikes and bike rides using GPS, as well as strength training and other workouts. Having all this stuff tracked totally keeps me more on track and makes me more interested in reaching goals.
Oh by the way, it also uses bluetooth to tell you when you have text messages (you can read them from the watch but can’t reply from it) and when your phone is ringing, with caller ID. I particularly love this when I’m running outside and my phone is not easily accessible and I need to know who is calling before I decide whether I want to stop to answer it.
When I started running and got up to about 5 miles, I quickly learned all about chaffing. In the beginning, I didn’t know any better and I wore cotton pants and t-shirts. I chaffed EVERYWHERE! Thighs, groin, under my boobs, collarbones, arms…seriously everywhere. Switching to better fabrics certainly helped, but when you’re running long distances, that just isn’t enough. Body Glide is a true savior. It’s like a deodorant stick, and before your run, you just put it everywhere you might chafe. Not only that, but you can also use it on spots that are already chaffed and it will relieve some of the pain. Love it, could seriously not have kept running without this stuff.
Ok if you’re allergic to peanuts or you don’t like peanut butter, skip this one. But for the rest of you, this stuff is AWESOME. It is powdered peanut butter that you just add water to and then you have peanut butter? What’s special about that? One tablespoon of this stuff is 22 calories. For reference, a tablespoon of peanut butter is about 90-100 calories. That’s a huge difference!! Peanut butter is one of those foods that I used to feel was off limits to me when I was trying to lose weight, but PB2 changed all that. However, I will say this- PB2 isn’t such a perfect substitute that I’d eat if off the spoon or anything. My favorite ways to use it are in things like smoothies, overnight oats, and on things like rice cakes and bananas.
So far these favorite things have been related to physical fitness, but let’s not neglect the other types of wellness. Google Calendar helps me organize my life in a way that helps me to feel organized, in control, and mentally and emotionally well. I use it for everything- my every day life events, scheduling workouts, remembering birthdays, the list goes on! I love that I can have multiple calendars so they all show up in different colors and I can choose whether or not I want to see any given calendar at any given time, so things don’t look clogged up.
Pomegranate Burst Green Tea
I’ve always wanted to like tea, but I just never do. I usually have to add a lot of sweetener to it and even then I don’t love it. Until I found this tea. It is a green tea, which I love, since green tea is supposed to have many benefits, but it is also simply yummy. I love it hot or cold, and it is a great filler for when you feel like you need a tasty “snack” but don’t want to use up any calories.
Have you ever tried any of these things? Do you have your own favorite things? What are they? I’d love to try some new things!!
